Chattogram Motor Fest 2022

The fifth iteration of Chattogram Motor Fest took place from Thursday, October 20, to Saturday, October 21 at the premises of GEC Convention Centre, Chattogram city.  The three-day event mainly took place inside one big hall inside the convention centre. Initially presented by the PHP Group, the event has gotten bigger every year, with more brands participating and showcasing their latest offerings. This year brands such as Proton, Haval and Chery had a big presence at the event.

Entering the venue, visitors were greeted by the Proton stall on the right. Proton, being under the umbrella of the PHP group, has been a big part of the event for the last 5 years. The Proton stall showcased 4 models including X70, X50, Saga and the new 2022 Signature trim of the Persona sedan. The Director of the PHP Group, Mr Mohammed Akther Parvez was present at the stall, greeting existing clients and interacting with the crowd.

Chinese Chery made their official debut at the motor fest with two models, Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. The former is a small crossover SUV and the latter Tiggo 8 Pro is a 7-seat SUV. This is the second time Chery exhibited their cars following their recent launch in Dhaka. Just on the opposite side of Chery’s stall, there was Haval, marking their third year in this event. The cars on display included the Poer pickup, H6, Jolion and the all-new Jolion HEV.

Having passed the Haval stall one would arrive at the Honda stall. This was the first time Honda took part in this event, bringing in 3 cars with them. Including all new 2022 models of the Accord Hybrid, CR-V Turbo and the new Honda BR-V, a subcompact crossover SUV offering a third row of seating. Honda does not offer the 7-seater variant of the bigger CR-V in Bangladesh, it appears the BR-V is meant to be its alternative.  Moving over to the MG stall, this was the second year of MG participating in this event. Their offering included the HS, ZS and ZST crossovers.

In addition to automobiles, several parts manufacturers and distributors participated in the event. Some stalls had parts for Bikes, CNG, and Cars on display. Alongside these, there were vehicle maintenance necessities like Oil and Tyre brands showcasing their products. The two wheeler section of this year’s motor show was rather disappointing as only Yamaha and Suzuki set up shop to show off their wears.

Suzuki showcased their three new variants of the Gixxer, though they are only differentiated by colours. Yamaha, on the other hand,  put on a better show as they brought a 1000cc Yamaha R1M superbike, something that had the crowd rolling over at the stall. Yamaha also showed off some of its new bikes such as the R15M and FZX. As we exit the venue filled with loud music and disco lighting, we are greeted with the stunt performance of the bikers as they proceed to ride their two-wheelers on one wheel. There is a shimmer of disappointment as there was nothing for the enthusiasts. But on the positive side, it is nice to see more car-centric events taking place.
