Crown Club’s Decorous Drive to Mawa

On the sunny morning of 3rd September 2021, Toyota Crown Owners and Enthusiasts Club went on a thrilling drive at the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway.

Organised by the admins of the group, Mr. Shaker Ibne Amin andMr. Php Mustavi Irtiza, this was the club’s second official ‘Mawa Run’ and the 3rd official meet to be ever hosted.

The Crown has always been a popular option among Bangladeshis as a premium luxury sedan as well as a good all rounder car for the enthusiasts given the Crown’s rear wheel drive setup and the infamous 1JZ and 2JZ engine variants which attracted the Petrolheads. Being Japan’s answer to the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E Class, the Toyota Crown series has always been a hot cake mainly because of its reliability and brand value in Bangladesh. Currently, there are hundreds if not thousands of Toyota Crowns in Bangladesh and that too of many different generations.

To bring all these Crown owners under one roof (or under one specific group to be precise), the Toyota Crown Owners & Enthusiasts Club, Bangladesh was established in 2018. In order to socialise and to build a stronger community of Crown owners, the group organises annual meets and drives and this year it was no different. Organised by the admins of the group, Mr. Shaker Ibne Amin andMr. Php Mustavi Irtiza, this was the club’s second official ‘Mawa Run’ and the 3rd official meet to be ever hosted.

The plan was to meet up at a pre-specified spot in Gulshan of Dhaka, Bangladesh and head over for the drive. The end point was a reserved spot at the end of the expressway near Mawa Ghat where a meet was organised. The Mawa Run which started from Thai Emerald, Gulshan at around 11am, and had over 20 Toyota Crowns from several generations.

The generations varied from the single eighth generation S130 to several S210 generation Crown Athletes and Crown Royal Saloons. Most Crowns were bonestock and in pristine condition just like they were back in day 1 when rolling off the dealerships (props to the owners for keeping their cars in such immaculate states).

Several units, especially the older generations, were tastefully customised according to the owners’ preferences.

It was surely a blessing to the eyes for any petrolhead to see such beautifully modified Crowns all in one place.

The day ended successfully with the meet after the drive. However, before that, the owners discussed their cars with each other while photographers had a tough time taking photos without people getting into their way. Everyone parted their ways from the meeting spot after 12pm after taking a group photo of all the owners together.
