Mercedes-Benz 230E

The Mercedes-Benz W123 is a range of executive cars produced by German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. The W123 models surpassed their predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz W114, as the most successful Mercedes, selling 2.7 million units before production ended in the autumn of 1985 for the saloon/sedan versions, and January 1986 for coupés and estates/station wagons.Built and manufactured in 1976,the Mercedes-Benz W123 is a classic luxury car that never ceases to amaze people to this day. The phrase “old but gold” perfectly describes this 4 door sedan. Since the production of the car was stopped a long time ago, it is quite a task to get hold of someone who owns this hidden gem or even owned onesome time in the past. However, we are lucky enough to get in contact with one of the owners of the W123 in Bangladesh, AfrazHusain. This is what he had to say during the interview with Team Turbine.

What makes it special?

It is one of the earliest W123s ever built being manufactured in the first year of production, and it is the first 123 to be imported into Bangladesh, as the car of the then Persian ambassador.

Something you need to know about the car that makes it unique:

The suspension is a work of art and a product of keen German braincells. Drive any modern Mercedes and then drive any 70s-80s merc and it is amazing how well these old cars do. It is an entirely different concept that still holds the test of time.

Is it worth the price?

Absolutely,to me it is the world’s best classic for the head.

Do you want to upgrade this car in the future? If not, what plans do you have for the car in the future?

As of now, I am quite happy with how it serves our family. In the future, I plan to tinker around, fix bits here and there and just do general service work, which comes with every ‘project car’. But nothing major because it really is quite nice to drive in its OEM glory.

How has the car been serving you?

Brilliant. Its rides beautifully and has good torque. The doors still have that reassuring “thunk”. The car just puts a smile to my face, which is all I need to be honest. Something about classics are just not easily put into words. Drive one, that is all I can give away for now. The rest will reveal itself.
