SUBARU’S SINGLE CHILD

The two prior generations with 3 major in-between facelifts meant that by its 3rd generation, the WRX had a lot to live up to. And half of the “controversy” of the WRXs of the 2008 model year and onwards comes in here; with the slow decline of the rally stage, automakers put more faith in creature comforts and tech than their previous cutthroat machines. However, there was still reason to believe that the greatness was yet unyielding. This generation of the WRX saw an approach much more disconnected from tradition, and this was met with two sides. For one, this was the first (and unfortunately the last) generation that would be offered in a hatchback variant, which was, if I speak from the bottom of my heart – everything. Despite its cultish fanbase, the hatchback was welcomed with open arms for the most part, aging delightfully well considering that it’s a delinquent among its sedan siblings.
