Nissan Altima Gets Ultimate Recall

The Japanese automaker has extended an old recall for faulty hood latches in its Altima sedans, which now includes a total of more than 1.8 million vehicles. The newly added Altimas come from the 2016 to 2018 model years. When the primary hood latch corrodes, it can prevent the secondary latch from engaging, which can lead to the hood opening while the vehicle is being driven. This can obstruct the driver’s view and potentially cause an accident. The recall mainly comprises of 2013 to 2018 models of the Altima sedan. Other recalls for the hood latches were issued in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Even if the previously recalled vehicles had the latch replaced, it is still mandatory for the owners to have the replacement part changed once again. Nissan said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a fix for the faulty latch is still under development.
