Fernando Alonso returns to Formula One

Alonso has quite a history with Renault, with whom he signed in 2002 for the first time. He also rejoined the team in 2008 after a relatively difficult tenor with McLaren. Before he announced retirement in 2018, he kept doors open for a possible return to the sport if the situation and conditions were right. “His presence in our team is a formidable asset on the sporting level but also for the brand to which he is very attached,” said Cyril Abiteboul, Managing Director and Team principal at Renault F1 team.
