The Italian’s take on a V-6

Nicely tucked between the coupe’s shapely hips, will be a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with double overhead camshafts. The engine has been named “Nettuno” which means Neptune in Italian. The cylinders are over-square with a bore and stroke of 88.0 millimeters and 82.0-millimeters respectively. The engine features an 11.0:1 compression ratio and has its cylinder banks placed at a 90-degree angle. Nettuno is lubricated by a dry-sump oil system that enables the 3.0-liters’ bellytrim to keep a low profile, of just 25.6 inches. The engine is said to produce 621 horsepower at 7500 rpm, which is 500 revs short of the 8000-rpm redline. The peak torque of 538 lb-ft occurs at 3000 rpm and stays constant all the way to 5500 rpm. While the power numbers are more than impressive for a small V-6, the thing that makes the Italian engine more interesting is the way it ignites its fuel.
