BREAKING THE TABOO : THE FEMALE MECHANICS

The program, spearheaded by UCEP with the help of Bangladesh Government and the ILO, was designed to allow people with little formal education, i.e., those with education below class eight to gain the necessary skills to enter into more skill-based industries such as the vehicle servicing industry. This has proved to be a great opportunity for those stuck doing menial tasks as jobs to get by with their lives. The program utilizes a competency-based system, where the trainees are taught based on the requirements of the relevant industry. Inputs are taken from the industry-level employers in designing the curriculum of the program. It is divided into two stages, each stage ending with an assessment. At the first stage, the trainees are taught at UCEP training center and given the information and practical projects to work on in order to gain the necessary knowledge for becoming a mechanic.
