THE ODD ONE OUT OF THE BUNCH, BUT YET AN ICON

With the guidance of Volkswagen, Porsche sniffed out an opportunity to make a sports car for a period where manufacturers dared not to take such risk. They carried out heavy research to make a front-engined Porsche that would be economical and fun to drive at the same time. The model was dubbed to be the 924, but it never took off as the latter decided to back out at the last minute which can be considered to be fair since it was too big of a risk. But Porsche wasn’t ending there. They had invested way too much and had gone too deep to back out at the final stage. With “being cost-efficient” not a factor anymore, Porsche paid millions to Volkswagen to get the rights to produce the front-engined 924. Porsche also got in an agreement with Audi who decided to provide its German counterpart with an unrefined 2.0l inline-four motor that ended up powering the 924. They even decided to make the 924 in one of their factories but no one knows why Audi felt so generous.
