THE RING THAT GIVES A SECOND LIFE: THE HALO.

The first F1 car to stick something right in front of the driver was the 1972 Eifelland-March E21. It was just a stick with a mirror on top where it could be seen behind.  It was a design from a self-proclaimed expert Aerodynamics engineer from Italy called Luigi Colani who contacted the Eifelland team with a proposal that he could provide a more aerodynamic design keeping something like a ring in front that could dodge off debris or make less eventful impacts. Fast forward almost 40 years; Mercedes was the first team to propose a complete ring around the top of the car on 2015 and after 2 years of profound testing, FIA approves the Halo on modern F1 cars.
