Hyundai Motorsport has unveiled their upgraded WRC rally vehicle ahead of the upcoming 2022 season, which begins later this month.
The new "i20 N Rally1 2022 edition" was built from the bottom up to work with a hybrid system. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine is linked with a Kreisel Electrics 100-kW electric motor, which produces roughly 500 horsepower in short spurts.
The power will be sent to all four wheels using a five-speed gearbox that eliminates the center differential. To comply with new WRC rules, liquid cooling for the brakes has been removed, but the new car now uses regenerative braking to charge its batteries.
The 2022 version is around 70 kg heavier than the previous model, with simpler dampers, hubs, anti-roll bars, and an all-new steel spaceframe chassis.
