Back in the day of racing, to enter the WRC, companies had to have a few hundreds, perhaps a thousand road going versions of the race car that was about to compete. This was a fairly easy task for most manufacturers but, as of now, rules have changed and have gotten rather stricter over the years because now companies have to manufacture 25000 road going version of the car to enter the WRC; which benefits the enthusiastic consumer as a lot of these cars tend to cut corners to make the drivability better as technically it is a legal rally car.
